Every learner at The Indian Public School - Salem feels safe, respected and supported in class and beyond. Students build confidence through social and emotional learning, check-in and check-out and a year-long mentor–mentee programme. Personalised learning support, language support and dedicated safeguarding officers ensure the right help at the right time.

Our school provides a strong well-being framework that includes:

ISP Safeguarding Leads  are trained staff members who are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and we expect all our employees and volunteers and any contractors / consultants and partner agency staff in our schools to share this commitment. In line with this, we expect them to recognise where a student is at risk of, or is being harmed, and to do all they can to reduce further risk or harm.

Students can approach them to:
 

  • Report concerns or uncomfortable situations
  • Seek guidance on personal or social issues
  • Get help in a safe and confidential environment 

Students can:

  • Speak directly to Designated  Safeguarding Lead (DSL) or Deputy Designated
  • Safeguarding Lead( DDSL).  
  • Inform their class teacher  
  • ⁠Inform their mentor
  • Reach out to the school counsellor
  • Reach out to Coordinators /Vice Principal  
  • Approach the principal directly

All concerns are handled with care, sensitivity, and confidentiality. 

Each student from Grade 6 to 12 is assigned a mentor. 

  • Monthly mentor–mentee sessions are conducted
  • The same mentor stays with the group over the years at school 
  • Students can discuss achievements, challenges, or concerns 

This helps build trust and a strong support system over time. 

During these sessions, students can:

  • Share what went well during the month
  • Discuss any academic or personal challenges
  • Receive guidance and encouragement
  • Build a meaningful connection with their mentor 

Yes, the school has a qualified counsellor who is a psychologist available for students.

Students can:

  • Seek emotional and mental health support
  • ⁠Discuss stress, anxiety, friendships, or personal issues
  • Request sessions at any time through their class teacher / ISP Designated Safeguarding lead( DSL)  or  Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead ( DDSL) / Mentor / Coordinators/ Vice Principal/ Principal  

Yes, students are encouraged to approach the principal directly if they: 

  • ⁠Have concerns they want to escalate
  • Need guidance or support
  • Feel more comfortable speaking to the principal 

The school provides: 

  • Support classes based on assessment performance
  • Regular feedback through PTM/ Open forums 
  • ⁠Personalised attention to help students improve 

PTM/ Open forums  help: 

  • Review academic performance
  • Motivate students
  • Address common challenges

Yes. Any concern shared by a student is handled with:
