At TIPS Salem, students experience extraordinary education, exposure and experience through sport and arts, stepping into programmes where medals and trophies are only the starting point.
From curriculum PE to the after-school Youth Sports and Arts Programme (YSAP), they train, compete and perform across swimming, soccer, basketball, badminton, cricket, athletics, table tennis and chess, building fitness, confidence and the courage to take the lead.

The Youth Sports and Arts Programme (YSAP) gives committed student-athletes the chance to train at a more advanced and competitive level. Held after school from Monday to Friday, 4:00 - 5:30pm, it offers specialised coaching that builds strength, skill and game understanding.
Students in Grades 4- 12 move fast and think even faster. Young badminton players sharpen footwork, timing and racket skills while challenging each other in singles and doubles, building stamina, reflexes, focus and the confidence to compete point after point.
Grades 4 - 12 students play fast, think smart and finish strong. Young athletes drill core skills, read the game and make quick decisions in real match situations, building fitness, coordination, confidence and leadership on and off the court.
Students from Grades 1 - 12 run, jump and throw their way to stronger bodies and minds. Young athletes master movement basics, then chase personal bests in sprints, distance, relays and field events, building endurance, speed, power, resilience and self-belief.
From Grades 1 - 5, students splash into swimming with playful, safe lessons that build water confidence. In Grades 6 - 8, young swimmers refine strokes, breathing and turns, grow strength and stamina and learn to stay calm, focused and in control in the water.
Students in Grades 4–12 step up to the crease as thinkers and competitors. Young cricketers practise batting, bowling and fielding in real game situations, build strength, speed and agility and learn to analyse play, stay composed and support their team.
From Grade 1, young footballers start with fun games that build balance, coordination and a love of the ball. By Grades 4 - 12, students train strength, skills and tactics, lead teams on the pitch and learn to handle pressure together.
Students at TIPS - Salem regularly distinguish themselves at RAIS, ISSO and sports events, earning multiple medals across swimming, badminton, table tennis, football, cricket, athletics, skating, karate, chess and basketball. Their success at the ISSO National Games, including medals in multiple sports and qualification for the Nationals, showcases growing skill, resilience, confidence and all-round sporting excellence in competitive arenas.

Within the Youth Sports and Arts Programme (YSAP) at The Indian Public School - Salem, students connect sport and creativity after school. They join all sports and CAS programmes through YSAP, using extended time to train, rehearse music and dance, develop art and design projects, and create media pieces that capture games, events and school spirit.

Hariraj S holds a Master of Philosophy (M.Phil) in History and a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education (B.P.Ed). He has been a valued member of the TIPS family since 2013, beginning his journey as a Physical Education Teacher and currently serving as the Head of the Department of Physical Education. Sports have always played a central role in Hariraj’s life. His primary disciplines are hockey and cricket, having represented his school in the Rural Hockey Tournament at the national level and played cricket for both his school and district teams. His sporting journey continued in college, where he represented Periyar University as a South Zone player in both hockey and cricket.Â
Hariraj is also a proud holder of ‘A’, ‘B’, and ‘C’ certificates from the National Cadet Corps (NCC). and has actively participated in several NCC camps.Â
He is a strong advocate for the holistic development of children through physical education, emphasizing how sports nurture creativity, decision-making, teamwork, and leadership skills. With a lifelong passion for sports, Hariraj is dedicated to training and inspiring students to achieve excellence both on and off the field.Â
Kowsalya I holds a degree in Tamil Literature and a Bachelor’s in Physical Education and is currently serving as a Physical Education Teacher in the Department of Physical Education at TIPS.Â
She specializes in wrestling and has represented Tamil Nadu in the Women’s Senior National Wrestling Championships, also securing 4th place in the South Indian National Wrestling Championships.Â
Kowsalya joined TIPS in 2023 and is now in her third year of service, dedicated to training and mentoring students in sports and physical education.
Senthil Kumar B has a background in History and holds a M.A, Â Master of Arts & Bachelor's degree in Physical Education B.P.Ed. Â has been a valued member of the TIPS family since 2015, serving as a Physical Education Teacher. Prior to joining TIPS, he gained 8 years of experience in a CBSE school in Salem, building a strong foundation in school sports education. At TIPS, he has coached the Under-11 and Under-13 soccer teams, guiding them in various inter-school and inter-district tournaments. His own sports journey began as a hockey player in school and expanded in college, where he represented his institution in cricket, hockey, football, badminton, and ball badminton. He also represented Periyar University as a South Zone hockey player for five consecutive years. Senthil is a trained Scout Master with Advanced Level certification and a certified football referee. He is deeply passionate about sports education and is committed to training and mentoring students to achieve athletic excellence, discipline, and strong character.Â
Giri J is a Physical Education Teacher in the Department of Physical Education at The Indian Public School, Salem. He holds an M.P.Ed and M.Phil in Physical Education from TNPESU, Chennai, specializing in football. He is also an Indian Professional Football Referee, officiating matches in the I-League U13, U15, and U18 categories. He represented various universities in the Inter-University South Zone Football Tournaments from 2014 to 2017. Under his guidance, the school football team has achieved multiple winner and runner-up positions in tournaments such as Salem Sahodaya School Sports, RAIS Tournaments, and the ISSO National Games (2022–2026). Notably, nine students from the school participated in the London Football Cup and London Football Academy in 2022.Â
Giri is in his eighth year of service at TIPS and is passionate about mentoring students with patience and care. He encourages them to challenge themselves, stay disciplined, work hard, and pursue their passion with dedication, contributing significantly to their development through sports.Â
Eswara Moorthy M is a Physical Education Teacher specializing in badminton at TIPS. He holds a Bachelor of Business Administration and a Bachelor of Physical Education. He joined the TIPS team in 2022 and is currently in his fourth year of service.Â
He has been a district-level badminton tournament winner and has represented Periyar University in badminton tournaments, as well as Tamil Nadu Physical Education and Sports University in both badminton and table tennis tournaments.Â
Eswar brings 12 years of badminton coaching experience at beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels, training school and college students across various academies. He is passionate about developing skills, discipline, and confidence in his students through sports.Â
Nithyanandhan R holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering and a Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education. He has completed 6 weeks NIS course in Athletics and Swimming (ASCA) and currently serves as a Physical Education Teacher, specializing in Athletics and Swimming.He has represented the South Zone Athletics Meet (U20), the Inter Polytechnic Athletics Association State Level Meet, and participated in the prestigious CM Trophy in Swimming. Since joining TIPS in 2023, Nithyanandhan has been dedicated to nurturing students’ physical development, sportsmanship, and performance excellence. Now in his third year at TIPS, he continues to inspire young athletes through his passion and commitment to sports education.Â
Priyanka P holds a degree in English Literature and a Bachelor of Physical Education, combining a strong academic foundation in both liberal studies and sports sciences.Â
She has had an extensive sports career, representing the Tamil Nadu Football Team (2010–2014), Periyar University (2013–2015), and Tamil Nadu Physical Education and Sports University (2016–2018). In recognition of her achievements, she was awarded gold medals in the District-Level Chief Minister’s Trophy Football Tournament in 2024 and 2025.Â
Shiny J is a PSPE Facilitator holding a B.E. (EEE) and a B.P.Ed, providing a strong academic foundation for her professional approach to physical and sports education. A national-level athlete, she has been an Individual Champion at zonal, district, and regional levels in the 100m, 200m, Long Jump, and Triple Jump. She has secured podium finishes at School State and Junior State levels, qualified for National-level competitions, and represented Anna University and Tamil Nadu Physical Education and Sports University at All India Inter-University Athletics Meets. Shiny also holds the meet record in the 100m (12.2 seconds) at the Tamil Nadu Inter-Engineering Sports Meet and has been recognized with the Most Promising Sports Person Award, along with state-level podium finishes at the Chief Minister’s Trophy. With 7 years of teaching experience handling students from Grades 1 to 12, she is committed to holistic student development through structured, age-appropriate physical education. Her teaching emphasizes physical fitness, discipline, teamwork, resilience, and sportsmanship, inspiring students to adopt a confident and lifelong approach to health and well-being.Â
Kousalya S has a background in English Literature and holds a Bachelor's degree in Physical Education. She is currently serving as a Physical Education Teacher in the Department of Physical Education. She specializes in volleyball and has represented the Tamil Nadu Volleyball Team in 2015. She also represented Periyar University for three consecutive years (2015–2018) in the South Zone Volleyball Tournament. Kousalya joined TIPS in 2022 and is now in her fourth year of service. She is passionate about working with children and brings patience, dedication, and enthusiasm to guiding, supporting, and nurturing them through sports and physical education.Â
Sumathi VS holds a B.Com and has completed the 6-week Summer Swimming Course from the National Institute of Sports (NIS). She is a dedicated Physical Education Teacher at TIPS, with 3 years of experience since joining in 2023. A passionate swimmer, Sumathi achieved 5th place in the Chief Minister’s Trophy and has participated in national-level swimming championships, demonstrating excellence and commitment in her sport. Since joining TIPS, she has been committed to fostering a safe, inclusive, and motivating environment, empowering students to move, learn, and grow. Her teaching philosophy goes beyond developing physical strength, focusing on nurturing confident, compassionate, and responsible individuals through structured sports, swimming, and movement-based activities. Â
Avinash A completed his M.P.Ed (Master of Physical Education) in 2015–16 and joined TIPS Salem the same year as a Physical Education Teacher and Basketball Coach. He brings 10 years of teaching and coaching experience at TIPS.Â
He represented the Tamil Nadu School Games Federation of India (SGFI) Basketball team during his school years and played for Periyar University at the South Zone level twice. During his post graduation, he served as Captain of the Bharathiyar University Basketball team.Â
Avinash is a qualified Basketball Coach approved by the Tamil Nadu Basketball Association, holds a Diploma in Yoga, and has completed a 6-week NIS Certificate Course in Basketball. He has also coached the Salem District Basketball team twice, leading them to medal-winning performances.Â
